Interactive Shoe Stylist

This was a personal research project, in which I chose to investigate the area of fashion and retail. The deliverables included a research document and video prototype to demonstrate my final concept.

Challenge

The UK high street is in decline. Retailers are suffering from an increase in online sales, rising store costs, and changing consumer behaviour. There are greater expectations of what physical stores should offer, as high streets have become more of an experience than a necessity. As a result, retailers must find new ways to adapt and meet the needs of a more demanding market.

Solution

I conducted a user survey to understand the behaviour and frustrations of shoppers. The results show there is a demand for more product and styling information in-store. My solution is an interactive shoe stand that customers can use to view styling options and product information through tangible interaction.

Impact

My concept is an effective solution to the lack of product information available in stores. It can be used intuitively by customers and offers the benefits of online and in-store shopping by combining physical and digital interaction. The main improvement would be to create a more engaging and exciting experience that would encourage people to visit the store.

Product Infomercial

Customers will see this screen when they first place a shoe on the stand. From here they can request a size, view product information and other colours available.

Stylist Mode shows customers how they could wear the shoes and allows them to request other items from the look. This gives people inspiration for their own style and helps upsell additional products.
